Straight To DVD

Being that the latest series of Pulp Sport was on a Friday night, we realise that even the most hardened Pulp Sport fan (Ben's Mum) probably missed an episode (she had a tupaware party to attend so missed episode 3).
But never fear, because as luck would have it, the entire series is coming (like a terrible movie) 'straight to DVD'!! So you can see what you've missed, watch your favourite episodes over and over again and check out 'almost an hour' of other crap that wasn't good enough for TV (bloopers, deleted scenes, Q&A etc).

Pulp Sport Volume 3 (the 2008 series) is available to own just in time for Xmas and when we say just in time, we mean just. Due to lazy Chinese children who felt it necessary to finish making more Nike shoes first, the DVD won't be in stores until December 22nd.

Pulp Sport Volume 3, hopefully you can find it in either a JBHIFI, Whitcoulls or CD Store near you. Or buy it online here for just $24.95

The Tribe has Spoken.

They've tallied the votes and the Bill and Ben Party now has 13,016 offical votes from this year's election! This means we're the 9th most powerful political party in New Zealand, out of 19, and we will definately get our $1000 deposit back. We'll put the money on the bar in Invercargill this Friday as it's the place where we got 413 votes, the most of any electorates.

Sweet Home Wairarapa

We've discovered a rare 'B side' to Kid Rock's new hit single and it's suprisingly all about Ben's favourite New Zealand province.

Almost into Politics

Thanks New Zealand! You're choice! The Bill and Ben Political Party, which is quite seperate from Pulp Sport, were totally blown away by the support shown in this year's election. Getting over 10,000 votes and wasting heaps of "actual" political parties was pretty cool, so chur for all those that voted for us. You'll be pleased to know we got pretty smashed in celebration at our election night party which featured a bouncy castle, arcade games, our drinking game and a clown who made stupid balloon hats!

Well Pulp Sport kicked off on Friday night, and we had a bit of a shin-dig to thank all the lovely people who help make Pulp Sport possible. Here are a few pics from the night that was...Lawn Bowls with John Rowles. Except for the lawn bowls part cos it rained so we couldn't play, so really it was just "With John Rowles"

Bill & Ben move into politics

It's official! Bill & Ben are running for Parliament.

Photobucket
Above: Bill & Ben representing the minorities.

In early 2008 while frustrated with not only the current political options but Eddie Murphy’s latest choices in movies, Ben came up with the idea of having a political party. He mentioned it to Bill, who thought it sounded like a very lame theme for a function. Some confusion followed but that was soon cleared up and we both decided that they should run for parliament. Bill had always fancied himself as a long distant runner placing 3rd in the Bay of Plenty 10k Under 12 Champs in 1990 and Ben was happy to follow him in his beat up Nissan Sunny (mainly because he's lazy), so it was decided. Bill and Ben would run for parliament. Unlike other political parties that promise so much and deliver so little, the Bill and Ben Party promise to promise nothing. And yes, we do realise that by promising no promises we are actually making a promise, but that’s the only promise we’re going to make. We promise.

Bill & Ben get serious for Series 6

After several years of playing silly buggers, we thought we'd change tact for the new series. The network asked us to produce some new promos to capture the essence and sincerity of Pulp Sport. We're delighted with the results.

Pulp Sport across the ditch

As part of filming for the upcoming series, we took a jaunt to Melbourne earlier this week to stick it to the Aussies.

DAY ONE
We arrive in Melbourne, pick up our luxury rental vehicle, similar to the mighty Remuera tractor and head for our accommodation in St Kilda. Our Production Manager has booked us into what he thought was some high quality yet very affordable accommodation. High quality it was not. A small room with 2 prison style bunks, mattresses that had been pounded by all in sundry, busted bed springs, stained bedding... Need I say more. Checking out of this joint was immediately mooted. However, we decided to stay at least one night and revaluate in the morning. We feel the only way to make our stay bearable is to sink several schooners at a local watering hole.

DAY TWO
We wake, we check out explaining to the front desk that our schedule has changed and we're heading out of town. After brekkie at a local café, we take a stroll of St Kilda, brainstorm some ideas and scope out potential locations for filming over the next few days. The afternoon rolls around and we are in the suburb of Praham dressed as horses running in our very own Melbourne Cup. We also manage to find a nice apartment to stay at for the next two nights which we are all much happier about. TV3 has hooked us up with tickets to see Rove live. We're rather excited to be part of the studio audience. We cheer, laugh and clap our hands raw. Take that McManus!

DAY THREE
Tension is running high. We gear up to shoot a Sporting Hell segement. Ben loses another coin toss. Dressed in New Zealand supporters kit and wearing a large “Aussie Doesn’t Rule” sign around his neck, we take him to an Aussie Rules game at the MCG. As expected, there's plenty of verbal abuse and "sheep shagger" comments. Security move him from the concorse and tell him to take his protest to the road outside. After plenty more abuse, Bill decides he needs a further change in scenery and takes him sight seeing round Melbourne town. At the end of a days filming, we couldn’t be more rock ‘n roll. It’s a quiet tipple and a game of high stakes UNO. What a bunch of soft cocks!

DAY FOUR
Our last day in Melbourne sees us feeling the pinch of a little too much Wild Turkey from last nights UNO drinking games. Like the true professionals we are, we pull it together enough and manage to dress up in Aussie Rules kit and play a prank on an unsuspecting person walking a dog. We have a few spare hours to do some shopping – Yay! Late afternoon, we make our way to the airport only to find our flight has been delayed. We kill several hours by seeing what more we can buy from Duty Free, playing video games, checking emails and eating lollies and talking shit. Finally, we board and are bound for home with an arrival time of 4am. Who do the airline think we are? Some kind of nocturnal creature?

Pulp Sport goes live on the interweb

Everyone seems to have a website these days. It’s been 5 years in the making. Actually that’s 5 years just thinking about it. On a rather inspired day a few months ago we decided we needed something on the worldwide web that looked half decent. Our initial attempts to build something ourselves ended in tears. So we lined up a meeting with a "professional", Michael @ Impero. We listened to him talk for over an hour about internet stuff that was way over our heads. Finally, I said “Look mate, we don’t f*ckin' understand a word you’re saying. Can you build this thing or not?” After an awkward silence and Ben giving him a Chinese burn to let him know we were serious "clients", he signed on to design the very flash, new website you’ve been looking at. We’d like to take full credit for the initial brainstorming and overall concept of Pulp Sport.tv, but we’d be telling a big white lie. We’ll just stick to what we know, making average telly and now that we're online, updating this blog thing now and again.

Pulp Sport Volume 2 OUT NOW!

Can you believe it? We've released a DVD. We opted to get the difficult second release out of the way first even though Volume 1 doesn't exist. So please, go out and grab a copy if you haven't already. If you're unfamiliar with Pulp Sport, here's what we wrote for the DVD sleeve.

Take a teaspoon of Jackass, half a cup of Scrubs, a pinch of Family Guy and a dollop of The Footy Show, strain it all through Dan Carter's jockeys and you've got Pulp Sport. It's a little like a lot of things, but like nothing you've seen before - unless you have seen it before, in which case it's exactly like that. In your hands you hold the very first DVD incarnation of New Zealand's greatest/only "spomedy" (that's sports comedy). Pulp Sport Volume 2 is eight episodes from the Emmy Award (entering) 2007 series of Pulp Sport. It's guaranteed to be fun for the whole family! Well, maybe not the whole family, because your grandmother might not find it so amusing, in fact she won't. But at least she can use the DVD as a coaster for her cup of tea! It includes over 60 mins of bonus material!
